Yesterday I enjoyed a magnificent Tindersticks gig in A Coruña, about 45 minutes away from Santiago, where I live. Their performance was brilliant and loyal Tindersticks fans accompanied the band singing along to some of their darker stuff. A great feeling.
The managers of the venue were given the necessary information and material to make a first approach to The Bathers. Hopefully a Bathers gig or even a Tour Of Spain may be now possible after all.

Mon , i wish you all the luck in the world. But don't hold your breath. If they can't even play a Glsgow gig for about ,what 3 years ?,then there's zero chance of them going to your neck of the woods.Still , long live the dream eh?

I know it's very difficult Stephen but the same way I have tried other times I'm going to try this one. You are right, yes, "Long live the dream"... you cannot imagine how stubborn I can be even in dreams. Let's try and if anything comes out of it let me suggest you come here. I'll pay for the drinks.

I suppose it's good to even be in there Jimmy but i was reading The Scotsman every day when the Best Scottish Albums was serialised and i was totally prepared for seeing Sweet Deceit and Lagoon Blues in high positions on the list.Didn't happen.
Is it me that's stupid ? Am i missing something ? Surely,in the name of all that's Holy, these are better than Kelvingrove Baby.
Mind you, that album contains more grace and beauty than nearly all the ones that were voted above (i make an exception for the Godlike Blue Nile naturally)

Absolutely Stephen!!! I too expected Sweet Deceit to be there and I KNOW that at least ONE writer put it at the top of his favs. I didnt expect to see Lagoon Blues there because it seems to be a forgotten album of The bathers despite being the most expensive one to produce. Look at all those "live hits" that came from it too!!! Maybe Sweet Deceit 2 will make it next time eh? It is almost finished just one song and one vocal to do I am told.....although when it will be released is anyone`s guess!

I don't know if he had a vote (i assume he did) but it was the author Iain Rankin who put Deceit at his number one album.Well done son.He also has a quote from Ave The Leopards in one of his books :
Mind me when mischief befalls me from the cruel and the vain.
I think its Black and Blue. the book ,i mean.
If anyone doesn't know he's the writer of the very succesful series of Inspector Rebus books.
I don't know any other famous Bathers fans but i did see Blyth Duff (from Taggart) at the Garage show way back in....ooohhh the mists of time. One of the best gigs i've ever witnessed (Liz Fraser guested) and i'm still waiting for the video (or DVD!!!)

I have sold the complete collection of live/demo cds to a Hollywood producer!! I wont mention his name in case he doesnt want it but it was the real McCoy with the "Paramount Studios" headed paper etc. Midge ure was in the audience at Stirling Castle and was caught on one of the camera tapes. The Garage was voted "gig of the year" in joint place with some major act which I cannot remember, by the big issue, and YES thats the one I want to see on video/dvd too!!! Stephen....were you the guy having the conversation with the cameraman at the end? Asking about when the video was coming out etc? Its all on tape...the converation.....ho ho ho There have been a lot more "personalities" at gigs but I just cant remember them....I was told at the time..........."all the tall short people, all the somebody people, never

Anyway i just came on here to tell you that he's appearing live with author Iain Rankin (Official friend of The Bathers, see above for reasons) at Celtic Connections in January.Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow.Should be good.
I once saw The Blue Nile there and it was a classic gig...how i'd love to see The Bathers fill it one day.
Also , on a Celtic Connections note, remember the gig with our lot and The Pearlfishers Jimmy? That was a good one too.

From: jimmysmith@btinternet.com
Email: <Jimmy Smith>
Posted on: Thursday, January 22, 2004, 10:20 PM
A codec is a COmpressor/DECompressor and is used to create the video file.As the formula for compression/decompression changes and gets better and more efficient so too do the codecs change. For example the Angel on Ruskin video was made using Windows Media Codec 8 but there is now a Windows Media Player 9 player and codec so future video stuff may be encoded using 9 and this will require another codec to be installed at that time.

Yep , Magnet are good but if you want real genius there's a terrific wee compilation called "Mojo Presents An Introduction To Leonard Cohen" and although it's all "old" material there's a run of tracks on CD2 (tracks 2 - 7) which is simply spellbinding.Great stuff and reasonably priced on Amazon!

What are the cohen tracks stevie and is this you just hearing Cohen`s stuff for the first time? I`ve been a fan for almost 30 years now. There was a great film called "bird on a wire" that used to do the rounds and its one of the best tour films I ever seen. Did you know that he used to walk onstage and if he didnt like the vibe he would just walk back off and give everyone their money back! Couldnt imagine Robin Morton doing that!!!

I had an early Cohen one Jimmy but only half liked it in an "he's obviously great but im not REALLY loving it" kind of way.Now though i can see it......Tracks are Dance Me to the End of Love , I'm Your Man , If It Be Your Will , Hallelujiah , Take This Waltz and Tower Song. They just seem to flow together really well and it's under my skin.

That stuff is later cohen. You should try to hear songs from a room, songs of love & hate, live songs...those are all excellent. Tracks like so long marianne, hey thats no way to say goodbye, the partisan, please dont pass me by,suzanne, winter song, famous blue raincoat, avalanche, sisters of mercy, chelsea hotel, anything from the 70`s really. I actually took a tape deck to the cinema in the 70`s and recorded the soundtrack of the bird on a wire film....still have it somewhere but there was an official release of this film....now deleted but turns up on e bay a lot I am told.
