Without doubt the Kelvingrove Baby tour is the best live recording and performance of all the live stuff so here`s a chance to pick it up cheap. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=015&item=250025449371&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1

I take a few days away and what happens, all hell breaks loose. Jeremy, you have to park your ego at the door (portal?) when you come on this site. The illustrious Stephen dismissed my faves The Big Dish as "over produced" (not that I'm still smarting from that mind :0) and had the audacity to call Bowie the Thin White Puke!! But where else in your everyday life can you ask the question "what's your fave Bathers lyric" and get a reasonable response/discussion??

"So how was the farewell gig?" I hear you all ask. Well it was pretty good actually. Kicked off with Thrive and never looked back. Of course did my bit to promote the Bathers and directed them here for further info/cd's etc. We also did "if love could..." and stumbled through a someone druken version of Never Too Late. It's Tuesday and I've still got a sore head.

GM, Unfortunately NI was not on the itenerary of our World Tour of Livermore (and surrounding areas). We now plan to retire, I will remove myself from public view and be working on my solo masterpiece. Jimmy will run my website and offer clones of original material that no one bought in the first place. I may pop back on the site from time to time to give you vague clues about how the latest work is (not) developing.

You must have your wires crossed Barry as i can't recall slating The Big Dish. I only ever had Swimmer and loved it .... Maybe i was a bit hard on Bowie tho , he's done some good stuff but i honestly would rather slap T-Rex's Electic Warrior on than any Bowie. Just a personal preference , it's a great album with no duff tracks.
Chris said in May that the new one was raring to go ! What happened ? Is there even a label lined up ?
PS Chris , Richard Hawley (for example) says he's posted on his site 6,500 times, so where are YOU ??

Its night time in the guestbook. So ok then here is a creepy story for you all......as many will know my all time favourite Bathers song is the Honeysuckle Rose. I was listening to it tonight on headphones while surfing and I decided to type those very words into a search engine just to see what I would get. As you can imagine I couldnt resist going to www.honeysucklerose.co.uk and when I saw the warning I thought "oh no porn again".....I was wrong!

Go to the site and before you look at any of the paintings click on "About Rose" and read the description of her work right at the end of the short profile. Now isnt that description awfully familiar? Now go to "Gallery" and click on "Erotic" and have a look at painting no 9!!!!! Now look at no 5 and there she is the angel on ruskin herself! It was all so weird that I wrote and told her! I will see if I get a reply! And if you do stumble in here Rose then welcome aboard! :o)

I broke 4 teeth when my jaw smacked off the keyboard...blimey. And then the mist cleared eh? A truely majestic find boss. And she has the same name as me. And if I really had to choose one Bathers song it would be HoneySuckle Rose too. Excellant work detective!

It's amazing that we've been listening to these pieces of work for ages, yet there's always something fresh to obssess over. My latest is the end of the last track on KB - Twelve. The loveforlorn phone message spoken over those synth treated strings is unbelievabley poignant. The strings sound vaguely like Mahler to my untrained ear, perhaps played backwards or through a synth loop?? Anyone got any ideas??

Barry the name thing? You would not believe. Any connection works. For instance Stephen King has been ripping off my life for years. When I was twelve I lived in a [mostly deserted] hotel for a year, and my middle name is Danny. And that's not the half of it as far as that King bloke goes!! Anyhow Re: Twelve. I always thought "See you later Jimmy" was a reference to James Grant, until 'our' Jimmy pointed out it was he. Jammy git. What a claim: featured on a Bather's album.

Dear Bathers,
I wonder if you put the following blatant plug on your website/forum/links page (delete as applicable!):
"The Great Jock 'n' Roll Single - Have You Voted?
What is the greatest Scottish single ever released? Send us your Top 10 (plus one nomination for the Worst Scottish single ever) and we'll formulate the results into a snazzy little chart/poll for future publication. Also, feel free to give us your memories of any of the tracks, especially if it's one of your own, as we'll be looking to publish those memories too.
The website www.jocknroll.co.uk (much blood, sweat and tears) is up and is there to remind you of (almost) every Scottish artist who has released a single in the UK. Have a good look around at the potential choices before you settle on your Top 10 (make sure you tell us

Quick plug for Jimmy's CD. I finally got round to buying a few - UPTD to replace my very tired old vinyl version; Kelvingrove Baby Live Tour; Sweet Deciet Demos. First of all let me say that the quality of all recordings is absolutely spot on. The KB live CD is excellent, great to hear different arrangements of old faves plus some interesting covers. The SD demos is a wee tad disappointing as they are not too different from the final version, but there is enough curios there to keep the average Bathers obsessive happy.

Watching Letterman the other night, he was heralding the return of Bob Seeger (god help us all). Dave asked Bob why he hadn't recorded an album in 11 years. Bob said " I just took the time out to watch the kids grow." His youngest is 11. So by that reckoning folks guess I'll check in on this site around 2012. By that time CGT's kids will be flipping him the bird and calling him a twat. By then he'll have lost interest in the family unit thing. Maybe then he'll drag his ass over to that big piano in the room, mere feet away...

I hate to interrupt...cough...but I wanted to share with the wind my latest addiction: Micah P Hinson and The Opera Circuit. I don't know why but I can't stop playing it. Tom Waitsian growl; cellos, violins and violas; tortured romanticism; and catchy as hell tunes. Hmmm. Sorry you can continue......

Yes , its getting kinda depressing lads isn't it. The leaves are falling , the rains pissing down and we've nae Bathers news to cheer us up. Maybe we should talk amongst ourselves more.......
Micah sounds good GM , i love Americana stuff and Tom Waits so i'll check him out (soon as i finish this !). Can't wait for "Orphans" the 3 CD set that Tom Waits is releasing very soon , should be good. I predict that i'll like "Bawlers" best , the disc of ballads etc.
Current listening for me is an old classic "Dusty In Memphis" which just gets better and better.

Is the Tom waits stuff original material? I was under he impression that it was a "collection"....anyhoo my band has just written a little ditty that kind of strikes me as a bit Bathers-ish. If anyone is interested in hearing it, send me your email ID and I'll zap it of to you. Only payment is that you give an honest (but constructive!) opinion and bear in mind it was recorded in the world famous studio "guest bedroom" of my hoose!

I believe that the Waits stuff is all previously un - released , it's outtakes , new recordings off old stuff (rare ones) and Toms own versions of songs he gave to others ie his take on Down There By The Train , a brilliant song which Johnny Cash made his own.
CD 1 (Brawlers) is uptempo , percussion heavy , screwed up blues etc.
CD " (Bawlers) is ballads , lullabyes , dreamy stuff and CD 3 (Bastards) is spoken word , instrumentals and other shit that don't fit !

Yes the Waits stuff will be a feast alright. Hope I get the time to listen to it properly, as his stuff can take a while before the magic is cast. Sometimes too much is too much.
